After realising there was a significant barrier to access ear and hearing healthcare in her local community, Andrea decided she wanted to help by setting up her own domiciliary service ‘Brooksies Home Services‘ using the Tympa System.
How did you start your journey using the Tympa?
I live in Frome, working with vulnerable people where many residents can’t leave the house to visit their GP or other healthcare providers. I wanted to help them have access to ear and hearing healthcare so started using the Tympa to visit people at their homes.
How much demand has there been for the service?
In the beginning it was slow to get the word out but advertising in my local area, in local papers and eventually word of mouth about my offering really helped to spread the word!
What type of customer uses your service?
I work predominately with patients who are housebound and are therefore left without access to ear and hearing healthcare services. There has been a lot of demand for this type of service in my local area as many elderly people have some problems with their hearing. I think more needs to be done in this area, especially as many of ear wax removal services have been discontinued by local GPs.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to help people in and around my local community get access to the care they should already have. I haven’t got any plans to expand, I just want to deliver high quality domiciliary care to those in need.
What has been your favourite thing about using the Tympa device?
I really love the screen and the quality of the camera. You can zoom into the patients’ ear and get a really clear picture which you can then share with the patient, which really helps when explaining what is going on.
I also love the most recent update to the Tympa System, knowing that you are not on your own and there is always an expert opinion at hand should you need it is the main reason that I chose Tympa!
Do you have any stand out patient story where you feel you really made a difference?
To be honest, I have many! I think the best thing for me is seeing the patient happy or giving me a hug with tears in their eyes because the wax has been removed.
